Fraser Stryker welcomed another exceptional class of talented law students into our 2024 Summer Associate program. We are thrilled to share some insights from one of this year’s 1L law students, McKayla Sanders.

McKayla Sanders is a law student studying at Creighton University School of Law. During her first year, she received the CALI Award for Excellence in Civil Procedure 1, Legal Research & Writing 1, and Property Law.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Utah State University, with a minor in Human Resources Management. After receiving her undergraduate degree, McKayla spent time working as a Judicial Assistant for the Third District Court in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Q: What initially attracted you to the Fraser Stryker Summer Associate program? How did your expectations align with your summer experience?

A: I was initially attracted to Fraser Stryker because of the people. During my 1L year, I had the chance to speak with attorneys at every level, from associates to partners, and each interaction was very positive. My summer experience was exactly the same. I had the opportunity to work closely with and be mentored by both associates and partners.

Q: Describe your favorite out-of-office experience. Why was it your favorite and what did you like most about it?

A: My favorite out-of-office experience was the lunch and tour of Charles Schwab Field. I really enjoyed hearing Bob Freeman talk about how MECCA came to be. He shared some great stories about his negotiation tactics and gave useful tips on growing as an attorney.

Q: What was something you experienced this summer that really surprised you?

A: I was really surprised by how much my work actually mattered. Attorneys were assigning me research projects on topics they didn’t have answers to and were relying on my findings. It was incredibly validating and rewarding to hear that they planned to share my discoveries with the client.
